Below are some statistics from the WHO regarding cancer deaths in 2006. Germany had one of the highest death tolls, 224,000 people dying of cancer in 2006. Another country suffering huge loss was Brazil, losing 190,000 of its inhabitants to cancer. Argentina lost 63,000 to cancer, while Australia lost 38,000 people to cancer. The trend we can see is that all these countries have a high meat/dairy consumption. Meanwhile Somalia lost only 7,000 to cancer and Laos had only 4,400 victims. Although you may put it down to the fact that these last 2 countries have scarce access to hospitals and therefore the victims cannot be accurately counted (less 'medication' helps too), the decreased cancer deaths may be attributed to a simpler diet. My uncle was in Laos a few years ago and was surprised to see how the Laotians eat. He told us that as they walk along the road they see a bush or a herb and bend down to pick and chew raw and vegetarian, with a very small portion of it containing fish or chicken, all homegrown. Traditional Laotians do not drink cow's milk or indulge in stomach paralyzing foods such as cheese. The best moral to the story we could find was in the words of the WHO, "low fruit and vegetable intake and low physical activity are the prevalent risk factors for cancer"...
